Coups de feu sur Broadway
David Shayne, dramaturge au succès mitigé, souhaite mettre en scène lui-même sa nouvelle pièce, « Le Dieu de nos pères ». Pour réunir les fonds nécessaires, il conclut un marché avec le parrain Nick Valenti. En échange, Valenti exige que sa petite amie, Olive Neal, obtienne un rôle. Olive, qui n'a jamais joué que comme danseuse de revue, se révèle rapidement totalement incompétente, provoquant un chaos considérable pendant les répétitions, tout comme l'appétit vorace de l'acteur Warner Purcell et les caprices de la diva vieillissante Helen Sinclair.
